Default GC8 STI RA BRAKE UPGRADE

Its been a while since I was on the scooby scene, approx 3 years, so looking for someone to refresh my memory.

I have just bought a classic GC8 STI RA and it still has the standard single pot calipers on the front. I want to upgrade these but need to know if the subaru 4 pot caliper and disc would be a straight swap or would I need an adaptor etc or am I better off just getting something like K-sport kit.

F.Y.I the car is soley a track car.

Cheers.

Straight swap with the discs.
Ian Godney does an interesting big disc conversion for later..........

Might be worth considering Brembos or K-sports if only for track use.....

Cheers guys. Doing the track car on a budget so can't really afford to spend £1000 just on brakes. Would spend up to £500 for used set if you know anyone with AP, K-SPORT, PRODRIVE 330mm kits. Cheers.

Default old thread bump

interested in the same info, but for the rear. i have a 99 STi RA and have a set of 04 STi rotors/calipers handy. i understand that the fronts are direct fitment, but what about the rears. i've read a couple places that you need the "dogbone" brake adapter. can someone post a link to the required part?

There is two ways you can fit the brembo rear brakes on a classic , either with the mounting bracket kit and thicker handbrake shoes

http://66.7.200.85/~godspeed/product.php?id_product=91

Or mounting bracket kit and discs with a sleeve fitted to reduce the handbrake size down to suit your original shoes

http://66.7.200.85/~godspeed/product.php?id_product=137

Cheers Ian

those are not the correct brakes for an STi RA v5.........you should have the larger R180 diff with 2pot "subaru" calipers fitted - in which case

you either have an RA, a std 4dr STi or someone has piched your rear end.......

The looks like the 266mm solid discs with the one pots , so if they are yes my mounting bracket will fit along with the 2001 onwards WRX 290mm vented discs and the subaru rear 2 pot calipers

Yes because you said you had a Version 5 RA , if you did the STi rear brakes would just bolt straight on , now you have included a photo of what you have , it looks like you have the standard 266mm discs and 1 pot calipers as fitted to the early Impreza's so you will need the mounting bracket AND thicker E brake shoes here to fit the STi brembo rear brakes

http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/~god...?id_product=91

Before you go and order any parts , measure the diameter of your rear discs to make sure of the size you have as standard , if you have the 290mm solid rear discs then you cannot convert it to STi brembo brakes

Cheers Ian

Because the backplates are wrong to be able to fit a brackets in place , if you have these you have to change the backplates before you can convert it to 2 pot rear brakes

No I don't but they all look similar , the easiest way for me to tell you what you can and cannot fit it just measure the rear discs you have fitted on now
