Unhappy Help! Broke the locking wheel nut?

Hi, I recently tried taking my front let tyre off my blob .. Got to the locking wheel nut and it just cracked and broke! The locking wheel nut is also damaged! Here's a picture

How can I get it off? Would a place like quick fit etc be able to remove it?

Thanks Jamie

if your a member of the aa phone them, i rounded off a locking nut a while ago and phoned them claiming to have a flat and they removed it with a special tool they carry.
failing that try a tyre place they usually have the kit to remove them

Hi tommy, nope I'm not a member of the aa just looking online there not to expensive to join. I'll try some local garages before that and hope there can sort it out.

Is there any decent locking wheel nuts out there?

I would say get the AA out, failing that

1. tap the lock nut with a standard hammer, not very hard
2. find a deep socket extension that is a tight fit and pop it on and turn.

I had same problem and looks like you have the round McGard buts which are a bastid to get a socket to grip!

I took my car to the mechanic I use and after to messing about for ages he ended up putting it up on a ramp and drilling the stud out from the back of the hub! HTH.

If you know someone who a member of aa and they have the policy that if in another car then they are covered too, then get them to call on your behalf and have them with you.

This may work fella, tighten the rest of the wheel nuts right up but be carefull not to go to far over the torque limit so you don't strip them, Then you need to find a socket that is just short of fitting over the remaining outer diameter of the locking nut and thrash it on with a decent lump hammer. You should find fingers crossed that it will now undo mate. May the force be with you.

nothing wrong with those in general the problem is mainly caused by over-tightening..........
