I chose Falken FK452 when I bought a new set of 18s recently, as they are quite highly recommended as a mid-range Tyre. Paid just over £300 delivered for 4 from Camskill (225/40/18)

Goodyear Asymmetric 2's, love them wet and dry

Loads swear by Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's as well

What sort of budget have you got, in other words do you want a 'budget performance' tyre, a decent performance tyre, or serious rubber?

In that case, I would suggest Michelin Pilot Sport 2's, or Pilot Cups, or Yokohama AD08, which is more of a summer orientated tyre,

Both top performers, probably the best, but quite different. The Yoko has very solid side walls which give RAZOR response. Turn-in is simply superb. No flex in the tyre so direction changes are instant. Dry grip is immense. Progression is one of the best giving huge confidence levels.

The Michelins on the other hand are quite a different story. Their walls are softer so turn in is not precise, but dry and wet grip are on the same levels as the Yoko. The AD08 gets the dry grip honours though. The PS2 carcass is quite different from any 'normal' road tyre and was developed specifically for the Pilot Sport. The Pilot Cups take things a stage further - serious rubber indeed
