Default wheel offsets ?

I have to run 5mm spacers to clear my brakes. My wheels have ET48 offset.
My question the higher the et number =more clearance or is it the other way round?

Higher the number the more the the spokes are closer to the hub/caliper.
So lower numbers push the wheels out of the car and higher numbers are closer.

A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that just because it has the right ET and PCD the wheels will fit but it's down to spoke design.
If they aren't actually designed for your specific car then you're going to mod to fit or bin.

Subaru have high offsets of usually ET53/55 but generally aftermarket wheels run a lower offset, my old cars had Speedlines with an ET48 with no clearance issues

i am looking to buy a set of Prodrive GT1..18x7.5...100 pcd...ET48
I have OZ Ultraleggeras at the moment they clear my brembos using 5mm spacers.
What i need to find is a blobeye owner who has these wheels fitted.
My OZ wheels are the exact same dimensions so it just depends on the spoke design.

Hmmm I have a feeling that the GT1's won't clear Brembo's but I'm prepared to be corrected
