WRX brakes ..how to improve???
At the moment i am running standard calipers + kevlar pads.on a 04 WRX.
Will any sti calipers fit or do i have to go aftermarket?I dont do track days just want better brakes. If i have to go aftermarket who is doing a good deal at the moment? All advice welcomed.Anybody who upgraded what did you use where from and what was the result?...

Depends on your budget,we are run on our WRX OE 4pots with BlueStuff NDX and we are not seen any improvement from OE Pagid pads, discs we are run two piece and HEL braided lines and DOT 5.1 and really hardly i've seen some improvement over older setup
We are went from OE 4pots to K-sport 8pots 356mm with DS2500 and rear K-sport 6spots 330mm with DS2500,plus Hel braided lines and DOT 5.1 and difference is amazing, you will see right away difference in braking like we are seen, still we are not tried on track but hopefully soon
About the best possible deal and combo, really depends on your budget and with Brembo and PF disc and PF pads you are looking around the same price like for K-sport 8pots combo with DS2500 or NDX

If your on a budget I’d go with a brembo setup. You can pick up a calliper & disc combo second hand for £400. make sure you get one from newage STI up to 2003 year as this will already be 100x5 PCD. If you get the later ones they will also fit but you will either need new discs or to get yours re-drilled to suit as they will be 114.3 PCD.
I have these fitted to my 06 WRX and are a great upgrade as I’m now running bigger power. Got some fast road pads from Aztec, £60 for a set. Top quality for road use if your not going to track your car.
Should also be able to sell your old setup to someone with a classic as this is a good upgrade path for them. I got £200 for my old setup so only cost me £250 odd in total.
Good luck!

I had already upgraded the rears by means of grooved discs, performance pads, braided hoses & decent fluid so didn’t bother changing the WRX rears to the brembo STI rears. No point, most braking done on the front anyhow. The setup I now have with STI brembos on front and upgraded WRX on rear is top notch! Will pull your face off! Highly recommended!

Nothing *too* bad about the OEM 4 pots..........just wrap them around a bigger brake upgrade and decent pads
I ran a Godspeed brake upgrade and it was pretty tidy but probably slightly cheaper for second hand brembo's with decent pads/discs....

Factor in wheels, though.
What's your budget, Dave?
These look nice
Hell of a lot of work to fit them though, and very spendy.

Does the godspeed WRX caliper big brake kit allow fitment behind the standard 17" wheels?
Thankfully I already had suitable 18" wheels for the brembs which i why I went down this route, otherwise I may have done it a different way, i.e. godspeed kit.

Yep........I ran the Godspeed kit under my OEM 17" Bug WRX wheels. In fact Steve VRS Tracked his Bug WRX with the same set-up
I think Godspeed Rallied cars with the OEM 4 pots as well LOL

You have to fit carriers which effectively lift the callipers further away from the hub so that biggers disks can be fitted...... There should be a pic on Godpeed's site

IIRC, the downside of the OEM 4 pot kit, was the discs aren't very big, and quite narrow, Ian @ Godspeed, or Alyn @ AS Performance would confirm if I'm correct.
Would make sense as the kit from Godspeed, uses a larger thicker disc.

Ask 10 subaru owners and you would get 10 different answers LOL..
My advice would be to ring either Alyn or Godspeed and have a chat about what driving you do and what they would suggest. They will give advice as they see fit for the car and driving you do, they are not there to sell you the most expensive kit as that sort of behaviour simply backfires on them....... with posts on here.
I think Alyn's service is second to none and everything I have bought arrived the next day and I would hate to upset him but the Godspeed big brake conversion I ran did me proud for the roads here in Cumbria where you can come across a clown who pulls out of a junction in front of you ..or the unexpected corner both of which need a good set of stoppers..

OK the kit is very old in design (10 years old) but good design doesn't go out of fashion

Best option if you don't do track days is to fit braided hoses, use a good fluid and upgrade the pads. Nothing wrong with the OE 4 pots, there are still plenty of people using them in competition. Having the supporting hardware is the key to success. Personally, I would use Pagid blue or Carbotech XP8 pads. Bigger isn't always best!

I upgraded mine a few years ago as was going to the ring for a few days. I purchased some godspeed discs and predator fast track pads from revolution and braided lines. I used them at the ring and then had them on the car for a year after I got back. I dont do alot of miles I must admit, but to take them to germany and still have them in good nick after I got back was brilliant. Do you have braided lines as these make such a huge difference from the spongy standard feel you get.
I also purchased some grooved and drilled discs plus kevlar pads off here for a visit to the ring late last year. They were also okay, although smoking a little after a few laps. BUT for the money they were very good value.
Of course if your budget can stretch then go for some uprated calipers but for road use I dont think you need to bother, but Im a tight *** so I would say that.

Generally speaking when you press the brake pedal down everything in the system expands, pistons pressing against pads, but also the flexible hoses etc. This is why braided hoses are fitted, they restrict the expansion in the flexible pipes effectively directing more of the brake pedal force to the pistons and pads.
When you have done this the pressures will tend to expand other things and believe it or not when you press the pedal hard the master cylinder can expand away from the bulkhead by a little, maybe a mill or two. The stopper braces the master cylinder and again directs more force to the pads etc.
With braided hoses & a stopper fitted my brakes now feel great, no spongy feel and very direct. For £30 it’s a good mod to do in my opinion!

Brembo's are a good option if your wheels allow. Keep an eye on ebay.
EBC Bluestuff NDX work great in these callipers
That set-up will be cost effective and will be good enough to track.
