I had new rear pads / discs fitted yesterday and have noticed today that the top of the pad is not making contact with the disc. The reason seems to be the small locating pins on the pads are resting on the caliper at the bottom and so the pads are at an angle. Is it safe to grind these pins off? - or perhaps the pads are wrong? I can't retrieve the old pads back until tomorrow to compare them. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Ian.

I have just fitted MDB1999M1155 to my rears today and there was a small protuberance on them but nothing that seems to impede them getting full pressure all the way across. They did however not have enough backing material to fit the wear indicator back on that was on the offside rear.

John,

Many thanks for the prompt reply. Maybe they will eventually bed down onto the disc? I've done about 200 miles with them on so far. Will get mechanic mate to have a look ASAP. Anybody else had this problem?

Cheers,

Ian.

Someone said that there are several different pad shapes required for the same model year! Might be an exaggeration, but I have heard more stupid things recently!

Mechanic mate has just retrieved the old pads out of the bin and they don't have the small locating pins. Looks like we're grinding 'em off next weekend!

Cheers,

Ian.

I'll see how they go this week and whether they sweep all the disc width. On looking again the little lugs do seem to be right up against the caliper, but it looks like the pad is contacting the disc all the way across. If in any doubt I will take the lugs off later in the week with a file - fun job - eight of them aren't there. I should make the pad myself next time

T-UK and John many thanks for the replies. The pads are definitely not making full contact with the disc at the moment. I'm getting the pins ground off ASAP. Not quite what I expected to need to do on some £90 pads

Cheers,

Ian.

Agree Ian - first I would have noticed would have been a wedge shaped pad in a few thousand miles - thanks for pointing it out.

I ended up grinding the tabs off the outside rear pads as they were not contacting as you said. Thanks for the tip.

Sorted Just had the tabs on the outer pads ground off and they are now making full contact with the discs.
