Did classics all have the same brake servo's?
Hi,
My sister has a 95 wrx but she is always complaining about the brakes on it and to be honest compared to modern cars she has a point. It's got 4 pots on the front, 2 pots on the rear with braided hoses all round and it's also had the master cylinder changed for the larger one but the feel and bite is still poor.
Her husband (Swisstony) had a 2000 uk turbo and she is forever comparing the feel of his brakes to hers and we can't work out why her brakes are worse because he had single pot rears plus everything except the hard lines and servo on hers has been changed!
Did Subaru increase the servo assistance on the later models? Do servo's go weak? We know the servo is working but don't know to what degree
Thanks,
Paul

Something aint right as my new one stops good with just 2 pot fronts and 2 pot rears ? standard lines and no doubt cheap fluid. What about trying one of those CDF brake stoppers ?

We all suspect servo but the servo works, by that I mean if you pump the pedal up hard with the engine off and start the engine with your foot on the brakes the pedal does drop
For example my 555 when I bought it had standard brakes all round and it was better! They are crap now but I know the reason why

all i can say is get saving for 6 or 8 pots if your not happy! I have only 2 pots on the front but had a full overhaul with s/steel pistons etc from godspeed & yes you need to use force on the peddle, unlike my mrs clio where you just touch it & your headbutting the steering wheel but even though 2 pots they are very good for me especially with his discs & pads i have too.
But that is how i have found the impreza's ive driven on 2 pots - i know you have 4 pots which are supposed to be better than 2's but you seem to be struggling for some mad reason!?
have you tried it on one of them brake tester machines where it looks at how it pulls up etc & see if that can point anything out.
Also what DOT fluids you tried?

I've told her to get some Brembo's if she's not happy but she refuses to spend any more cash on the car I think she is too used to over servo'd cars and simply won't press the pedal hard enough and that's what made me wonder if the later classic servos were more efficient.
It's on dot 5.1 fluid and has been for a couple of years.

tbh why worry too much about what can be done to change anything for the better if she refuses to spend any more money on it. If its not good enough then maybe she should move on to a more suitable car. Like a Fiesta or a Micra. Something that you wouldn't need to have sharp breaks on as it wouldn't go fast enough to worry about them
