Default Brake pads don't cover whole disc area. Is this normal ?

Hi, I bought discs and Kevlar pads of Ian (Godspeed) and after I fitted these, I've notice that pads aren't covering whole area of the discs. In result, after rain, it makes a lip covered by rust, which doesn't look good to me. Is this normal?

Because the bells are painted it makes it standout more than normal. Normally the bells would have rust on them to.

Is there anything I could do to get rid of it or make it stop the rust coming out?

Hammerite in black or silver would be my choice.
Black in my case and mine look the same as yours. Bob

Yes really only paint the edges but the paint will come off when the discs heat up

Ok, so why do I need bigger discs for 4 pots if I cannot really fully use them ? I mean I can't use the whole disc area. I'm a bit confused :-(

Braking is easier the further out from the centre the pad is.

The centre of the disk isn`t needed as the effective part of the braking is done nearer the outside, so larger the diameter the more effective the braking for less effort. Hence brake upgrades are larger disks and more pistons.

It`s not of concern inside, if it were on the outside I`d be worried.
Just get some black paint and run around the rusty part doesn`t matter about going over as the pad will clear the excess.

Can be quite normal for the inside not be covered.

Do those pads have a big taper on the edges or is it just the picture? The bigger the taper the less pad is in contact with the disc.

Hi
Pad chamfer has nothing to do with what your asking about so I don't know why Aztec would mention that ,

All discs and pads have a gap either side of the pads that the pads won't touch , this is why you get a lip on the discs when they wear , don't really know why the suppliers make them like that , as the discs we make in house are made with the pads a perfect fit with no unused area .
Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about it , as all the pad manufacturers make the pads the same size.
Cheers Ian
