Question Big brakes - wheel spacers?

Hi,

I've got new brakes fitted, K Sport 355mm front and rear (which are great ) but it threw up a slight issue, we had to remove the balancing weights as they were colliding with the calipers (there's not a lot of room!!)

The wheels have been balanced by placing the weights on the outside of the rim, but ideally I'd like them behind the spokes where they are hidden.

My question is, how safe are wheel spacers? Could I run a 2 or 3mm spacer (the shim type) without worrying about damage to hubs or studs?

I know cdf do a decent spacer set, but for the sake of some stick on weights really don't want the expense at the moment.

I have a seperate set of track wheels and don't care where the weights go so wont be using spacers on track.

Advice welcome
Iain

I wouldn't use spacers personally, they put extra stress on bearings etc. Stress you could do without lol.

a properly machined 2-3mm spacer will make no difference at all IME...............

having said that why cant the garage use stick-on weights on the inner part of the rim away from the garage

Any good tyre place should be able to balance your wheels with knock on or stick on weights on the very inside lip of the wheels, not outside. I have had this done before.

Running a wheel with slightly more offset would be the same as fitting spacers , which wouldn't put any noticeable stress on the bearings , if you ran wide spacers I would say it would , but not on a 2-3mm spacer

Hi Ian

Which one alloys you have, because on mine is everything spotless i mean clearance between the spokes etc.
