Take tyre pressure when hot or cold ???
#1
Does it matter when you take the tyre pressure ? Take it when it is cold or take it when it is hot ?
What tyre pressure should I use (taken when cold) here in the obvioulsy year round heat of the Bahamas ?
How much can the pressure change after roughly 5 - 10 mins driving when the tyres are nice and warm, 2 - 3 psi ??
Cheers,
Ray

Normally it's noted in the manual somewhere I think, but I've never known it to be anything other than cold.
Tricky to say how much it would change after 5-10 minutes of driving - it depends on how you're driving, heat of the tarmac as well I imagine in Nassau... not worth trusting anyway! Do'em when cold & that's it, I think!

Check it when it is cold and with load on them (ie car on the ground - not in the air on a jack). Also, get yourself a decent little gauge as the ones at garages vary in accuracy. For me a blat to work (20 min) along highway changes the pressure by only a few psi - but note that long fast driving will make the tyres hotter than a short slow trip (unless lots of hard braking, and cornering is involved). Wider tyres (215´s etc) will also discipate heat differently to skinny wheels (195´s etc).
Pressures change alot in conditions where you have snow and then hit the hwy where they heat up, but as long as you arent on the limit of the allowed pressure to start with it should be ok.
Long answer huh?!

Always when cold. Manufacturers reccomended pressures are always for cold. This is universal for road vehicles (cars/bikes) and for aircraft. Always use a good quality guage.

Thx guys, great help ;-)
I will check in the am, got a digital guage that is moves in .5 psi increments
I think I will try 29 rear and 31 front to start out with and see how that works. Don't forget that down here the roads are always crazy hot so the PSI may raise more during driving vs. the UK etc.
Thanks again
