Hard Brake Pedal
Out for a gentle pootle around London Town last night and I noticed my brake pedal went rock solid. Brakes still bit, but seemed to be binding a touch (rear hubs heated up and dripped copper grease off my wheel nuts as it got warm).
Check the no-return valve and all seems okay, checked that non of my pistons are seized and there's no obvious leaks on the vacuum hose (all new anyway).
Brakes seem to bite fine, just no movement in the pedal, except immediately after I restart the car.
Once we'd calmed down, it seemed to be better on the run home.
Did get a smell of burnt rubber/plastic a couple of time, but that could be unrelated given the traffic around and the fact that there was a lot of hot cars around.
Could my servo be on the way out, or is there anything else worth checking?
Can you change the servo without losing any fluid?
I assume the 4 bolts for the servo are under the dash, can they be accessed without removing the dash?
Cheers
Jon

sounds more likely the 1way valve in the servo vacuum line is missing/damaged giving the hard pedal??
however, that would not cause the rear brakes to bind?? are you saying they got hot enough to melt copper grease?? thats some heat!!

one-way valve'(no-return valve) is fine, tested that. It looks like drops of copper grease, but could be splashes of rust, on the inside face of the wheel. The valve is only a few months old.
