illegal brake pads
Be careful guys I have just fitted some new EBC yellowstuff pads (great by the way) and was surpised to find that... on roadcars built after 1999 Ferodo's DS2500 are illegal.
I know that some on here run 2500's on the road

Talk about a drama queen
Most performance pads are technically illegal , read through this
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/regulation90.shtml
Basically most performance pads exceed the upper limits of the test as they are too good , its something that I don't think would ever be enforceable as if the lettering on the back of pads comes off , which it usually does in time , who's to know whats fitted ?

Just to add , the regulation was set up to stop cheap poorly made pads being used that were very low in friction levels , that didn't come close to performing the same as the standard factory fitted items , a bit like the standard K sport pads
I tested a few brake kits from China a few years ago and you'd swear the pads were made of fish heads and egg shells , truely shocking , these are the pads that the Reg 90 are aimed at , not the well proven performance pads
Cheers Ian

Don't know about fish heads or egg shells but I did read an article a while ago where some dire counterfeit pads were analysed and found to be compressed grass.

Upon reflection this has little to do with brake pads and more to do with ill thought out unenforceable legislation which was all the last government was good for.

Ian will tell you years ago asbestos was outlawed in brake use,the compounds used now are very complex,I used to run Mintex am2 on mk2 Escort with early vented disc set up hom`e made spacers on 4 pots from 130mph like driving into sand, the only pad today I have found like them are Carbotech, now are they legal ? if I had pads made from Tony Blairs books that stopped me who cares.
