Brake upgrade advice
Hi
Looking for some advice on upgrading my brakes please
I have a 1997 V3 Type R, I was on track the other day and suffered serious brake fade pretty quickly. What would everyone recommend doing ?
Would a simple upgrade in pads and disc be fine or should I be looking to fit newer/bigger brakes ?
Being new to impreza ownership I don't know what fits what so if someone could enlighten me, I would very much appreciate it

I'm pretty sure a 97 doesn't have 4 pot calipers up front. Someone will correct me.
Infact, you can check just by seing if you have Subaru writing cleary visible on the front calipers.
If you haven't 4 pots, they would be a cheap upgrade, 150 - 200quid for a set with disc and pads. They would be a massive improvement over the 2 pots you may have. But still not brilliant for the track.
The next steps would be either after market: AP Racing are the best, around 1200 quid new or K-Sport around 900 quid.
or OE Brembo's from a Newage STi. Problem with this is they don't go under a lot of 17" wheels, and even some 18's.
If you've got the money, I'd go AP Racing all the way.

The type R should have 4 pots on the front , if you have standard pads then that would explain why they faded so quickly , so fitting a good pad would make a big difference , made even better by fitting grooved discs , but there is still a limit to what these can achieve , the next step would be a larger kit , but obviously the prices start to go up.

I thought the V3 Type R had 4 pots up front but only sliding 1 pot on the rear.
As said upgraded pads and discs are pretty cheap and don't require a wheel upgrade. it's more down to the pad though, Plenty of good ones to go for, DS2500, Padgid blues, EBC yellow/Blue stuff
I've tried the upgraded 4 pot setup(Discs and Pads), Ksports 8pot 330mm, Gold Newage brembo's and now have the scoobyclinic 6 pot set up on my current car.
The newage brembos are a good set up on a classic, are aournd £4-500 for a front set, these worked well on track and on the road, but you have wheel clearance issues.
The K Sports were very good, the standard Ksport sport pads were leathal, would fade after only five minutes of spirited drive, I replaced these with EBC yellow stuff pads and had no problems after that including a couple of track days.
using the Scoobyclinic 6 pot set up at the moment. These had chocolate for discs, which had to be recently replaced after only 6.000 miles, This was with no track days, and also included 2000 miles of running in a new engine. They were very badly warped and had a very large lip on the edge. I've replaced these with a decent set of godspeed discs and a set of EBC blue stuff and finding this a awesum setup.
Haven't tried Ap's but on the next car I have I'll either go AP's or the powerstation Porsche set up

If you already have 4-pot-calipers in front, just fit reasonable pads, discs and maybe some braided lines.
I personally would recommend Carbone Lorraine RC6 pads and DBA 4000 discs for best performance...

I would look at what Ian can offer you brake kit wise, if your going to spend cash on a brembo kit (as already said, wont fit) then you may as well go for Ian's AP 4 pot kit
