Default Brake calipers

Chaps,

I have been advised today that a number of pistons are seized on each of the front calipers on my (modded) 2006 WRX. The only safe way to deal with this is to replace the calipers. However, already having a fortune to pay out on another car I have, I can't break the bank. Any suggestions for straight replacement? Upgraded discs already, plently of life in the pads.

Cheers,

Matt

Its £210 a pair to be reconditioned here: https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...-calipers.html

For £210 or slightly less, you could get a second hand set, but its a risk they might be as bad.

And IF you send them to Ian, when you get them back, they will be BETTER than new.

Agreed, Alyn, and not too difficult, but the OP sounded like he wouldn't be undertaking it himself.

Every caliper we get in has some scrap pistons that can never be used again , the beauty of what we do is by fitting stainless steel pistons that will never rust again , ever.

And for the price, why don't car manufacturers use them? And CuNiFer brake pipes?

I had a brake piston literally shatter in my old A series Opel Manta, hurtling along the back roads to Castle Ashby lakes and pressed the pedal which just traveled to the floor - made stopping very interesting!

I have rebuilt disk brakes on cars and bikes over the years, you need to get a seal and boot kit for them, if the pistons are scored or rusted then scrap them if they do not come up completely clean and smooth.

A job for a competent amateur although if in any doubt replace them or get them professionally re-conned
