MY99 STi V5 Type R brakes ... options ?
Hello
I've got a completely bog standard V5 Type R , which I aim to keep completely stock (almost 11 yrs young with only 30k on the clock)
However , during my last few MOT's (the car only does 100 miles / year atm, hence the yearly reminder) I've been advised to change the discs and pads
As you all know, the standard braking is rather poor, a fact not lost when pressing on, in the rain ... the lack of ABS not always helping in the confidence stakes
The car is on the standard gold 16" rims, again which are staying, and of course there is the issue of the Type R's having different brakes (at least on the rear with larger discs and 2pots, I'm assuming the fronts are standard with the 4pots)
So, to the question ... I need to change the discs and pads both front and rear to something that retains the original calipers whilst giving me the best overall stopping performance
Suggestions please ?

look in the Group Buy section on here, Godspeed & Aztec Performance are both doing uprated discs & pads for circa £99 to suit your car
you will have the 4 pots with the larger discs on yours being a late Classic, same setup as mine
sounds like you have cheap standard spec pads in there if the braking is so bad

Hi
The front of your car has the 294mm discs and subaru 4 pot calipers fitted , same as all WRX's from 1999 onwards , but the rear discs are specific for your model , the rears are 290mm discs but with the larger 190mm handbrake , along with the 2 pot calipers , I can supply you a front and rear package including grooved discs and kevlar fast road pads for £245 , the kevlar pads are the first step up from standard and can take quite a bit of abuse , but wouldn't really be up to the job as front pads if you were doing track days , for harder road use or track days I would go with a harder front pad.
If you want to talk through different options , you can ring me on 01656 723060 , I have all items in stock for a next day delivery
Cheers Ian
