Wheels - width & offset info
When I bought my Blob STi last year I travelled to south Wales for it and on the way back stopped in by Demon Tweeks for a nosy. Ended up going for a new set of black wheels (17's) and have been happy with them. They did need a 3mm spacer to clear the front Brembos but thought no more about it.
I recently found I needed some new tyres and opted for 4 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's. It was when I was getting the tyres fitted I noticed the wheels were not the same size as the gold STi ones.
The differences are as follows:
STi gold wheels - 17 x 7.5 offset ET48
Black wheels - 17 x 7 offset ET38 (offset with spacer ET41)
Having put this into into the following Offset Calculator
http://www.kgm.tiwing.com/calcs/offsetcalc.htm
and found the results showed that the black wheels had 13mm more inner clearance and 1mm extended out clearance.
So my questions are - do these differences matter and if so what adverse effects could result if any with continued use of the black wheels.
I've put the STi's back on just now but if the black ones are okay I may put them back on. I've yet to decide whether to stick with either of these wheels or go for something else in my latest preference of gunmetal.

and the gold STi's

there isn't any major disadvantages... a wider wheel will allow more grip, but the lower the offset the grater chance you will have rubbing problems on the arches.
personally i would stick the wider wheels on but there is none to little difference... so if you prefer the look of the black ones stick with those

The ideal tyre size will be 10mm narrower for the black wheels. Less grip equals more "fun" sometimes....
I went to an 8" rim with a 235 tyre for more grip myself.
