Default Squeaking coming from front brakes when driving along

Hi guys, for a while now I've had an intermittent squeaking problem with my brakes where when I'm driving along and a rather loud continuous squeaking noise appears to come from the front wheel (OS) however when I actually use the brake pedal - no matter how heavy or light - it stops.

This of course has helped me diagnose the problem as a brake issue. But I've no idea what exactly it could be. I have recently changed all the discs and pads (this problem happenned before that as well) so it can't be a warped disc.

The brakes are 2-pot calipers with 277mm discs.

Any ideas please?

Much appreciated.

Tom

could be your wheel bearings failing, the nearside one is the one that usually fails first on a uk car, jack the car up and check for play

Think my wheel bearings are beging to start failing, keep getting a horrible metallic sound from both fronts it doesn't stop when breaking and is more prominent on cornering.
Not any sound i have ever had with a bearing failure before though.
But the car has been mostly sat around since the end of last summer.

Check your pads first, could be the pad wear indicator.

Sticking pistons or pads not fitted with anti-squeel shims and copperslipped?

Cheers but they should be fine as they are only a couple of thousand miles old.
