Default Used Brakes/ Or New

Alright chaps, seriously considering getting myself a new set of stoppers up front! Car is MY00 Classic running approx 330bhp.

Standard 4-pot subaru calipers with 295mm discs which are ok, I mean they stop but they are nothing special and lack real bite if honest.

So would like to upgrade, thinking possible 6-pots but at same time don't want to destroy my bank balance!! My Budgets up to 1k which I think is reasonable. Seen people selling used 6-pot K-Sports and AP 6 pots, but kind of looking for something that's ready to go on. Dont want to buy a used kit then find im replacing the Bells, Rotas, pads, seals, etc which would almost certainly push the price up to that of the same of buying a new kit anyway! But at same time I would kick myself if I bought new, then I could have had better spec kit or a monster set of used AP's 6 pots ready to go on for similar money or less?

Any advise chaps, or places I should be looking?

Any help much obliged!

Have a look here:High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use
Ian does a kit to use larger discs and pads with those calipers, that's your next stage and cheaper than a full kit.

You DO need 17" wheels to go over them though iirc.

Yeah, well aware of Ian's 335mm kit to utilize original calipers, but at price of £625 I think its worth spending couple of hundred extra and getting something new and beefier for example these K-Sport 8-pots (clicky!), Notably the 330mm kit 680+vat (799inc Vat). Plus you could sell your original 4-pot Subaru calibers and make back the difference nearly.

HI
Our kit is £575 currently , and as long as your calipers are working fine it will be as good as anything else available equal size , if your going the K sport route , cost in some good pads as the ones you get in the kit are crap , so add another £100 to the kit.

We also have a couple of sets of AP calipers that we bought in at a good price , so can also offer you our 330mm kit with AP 4 pots and Ferodo DS2500 pads for £895 complete.

Cheers Ian

Cheers Ian, i will defo consider that AP 4 pot kit. But how how much difference we talking between the AP fours with 330mm discs, to standard calipers with your 330mm disc kit?

Is it night and day, or are you just paying for AP name here?

Thanks, Kendo

Hi
The performance is very similar , the kit for the standard calipers has a larger thicker disc , 335mm x 32mm , and a larger pad than the AP's , we use a modified Aston Martin pad with this kit which is about 15mm wider than a standard subaru shape pad , as long as your Subaru 4 pot calipers are working perfect , I would say this kit is slightly better than the 330mm x 28mm kit with the AP 4 pots.

Also , just becuse other kit available have 8 pot calipers , it does not make them any better than 4 or 6 pot calipers , just that they have more , thinner pistons , a lot of people think more pistons equals better performance.

Cheers Ian
