Default WRX 300 Brake Upgrade

I'm getting a small amount of brake judder when braking from high speed so it looks like my disc are up for replacement. I'm not looking for a massive upgrade but something that will make the car stop better and fit under the standard wheels.

The car is used for road driving and a bit of commuting so hardcore pads and disc probably aren't best.

Any suggestions?

New discs and a decent pad should be fine for you, Ferodo DS2500, Mintex 1155, Performance Friction or Pagid, I'd stay away from cheap brands as they dont perform anywhere near.

But he has stated that he doesn't need hardcore pads for his use.

You have a couple of options without going mad , I can supply you our grooved discs and kevlar pads , the kevlar pads are the first step up from standard and would be ideal for your use.
I can supply you our front grooved discs and kevlar pads for £115 , or front and rear grooved discs and front and rear kevlar pads for £220.

If you were looking for better , I make a 335mm kit that retains the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers , we supply 335mm x 32mm grooved 2 piece discs and bells , larger than standard pads in various compounds to suit , a caliper fitting kit , and bracket kit to bring the calipers out from the hub assembly to fit the larger discs , this kit will fit under your standard wheels and is on offer at the moment for £550.

If you wish to discuss any of the options , please ring me on 01656 723060 or PM me
Hope this helps

Cheers Ian

All work from cold in my experience so I wouldnt exactly call them "hardcore"

Now if you have to warm them before they work then maybe I would agree.

Now buggering around fitting bigger discs or grooved discs, thats a pointless waste of money when std discs and better pads would do.

lol , yes ok

Larger discs will allways be better than a smaller disc in braking power , a grooved disc will dispurse the gases given off a pad so will combate fade , brake fade is mainly caused by the gases being between the pad and disc , and pushes the pad off the disc , a groove is somewhere for the gases to go so will stop them fading to an extent.

You can also combat fade by putting a higher temp pad in , but then there is usually a trade off in that they dont work from cold.

The 4 pads you have mentioned above , I would class as hardcore road pads , they would be what I would recommend if the user was a hard road driver , or was doing track days , especially the PF pads as the fast road pads they do , they dont do them for the Subaru 4 pots , only the race / rally pads , the Mintex 1155 can be a pain for squeeling with town use.

This is why I didn't recommend them for this user , as he states his driving style , and what I have recommended would be ideal for him

Cheers Ian

Sounds to me like, its more to make a sale for you than what best for the customer.

Ok so PF dont make a pad for that caliper in the correct compound, but all the others work from cold, they are not "hardcore" IMHO, std discs will work perfectly well.

I would make more money selling the more expensive pads , as in the ones you have mentioned , which I regard as a hardcore fast road track day pad , but that is not what the guy has asked for.
The pads you have mentioned are 3 times the price , whats the point in paying for that if you dont need that spec pad ?

Hi
Yes I had delivery of 50 sets of pads this morning , as I bought so many of them I got them at a better rate , the price we quoted you was at the price we paid on a smaller delivery of the pads which worked out slightly more
I'll refund you the £4 , can't be having an unhappy customer .
Cheers Ian
