are wheel spacers safe for road and track?
I need to buy a set of wheel spacers in order to fit one of ian godneys AP kits on my 1998 impreza as ive got a particular set of 17" alloys and just want to check its a safe way around the problem. Otherwise i have to change wheels which i can't afford to do in the middle of a rebuild.

I have 5mm spacers to get over my calipers and touch wood no problems on road or track in the last year. I think you should have around 7 turns on the wheel nut if not you need longer hub bolts.

Hi
The recommended amount of turns on a Subaru wheel nut (M12x1.25 thread) is 9 full turns. Because of this you can normally get away with fitting 5mm spacers and use the original wheel nuts (or the ones supplied with aftermarket wheels). When fitting spacers you also need to make sure that the wheel still locates onto the hub so if you fit too wide a spacer it will cover the hub and the wheel will not locate properly. This is when hub-centric spacers are required, these fit to the hub and the spacer will have an extended piece on the outer face which the wheel will locate onto. Because these are generally used when more than 5mm is required they are normally supplied with either longer studs or wider ones are supplied with studs pressed into the spacer and the spacer bolts to the hub with the OE wheel nuts. This type is normally used when 20mm plus is required.
We can supply the 3 or 5mm universal spacers and the wider hub-centric ones.
Hope this helps (and makes sense!!!)
Thanks

That is correct, the Subaru has studs and nuts rather than bolts.
Give me a call on 08450023000 so we can discuss your requirements and sort some prices out for you.
