Default Staggered Fit Wheels

Hey, just a quick couple of questions re starggered fitment wheels;

I know you're meant to keep the rolling circumference of front and rear the same for the good of the diff, but does different width wheels front and rear matter? (I'm talking 8.5 vs 9.5).

And

On the rolling circ. bit, I've got fronts at ~67.97" / ~172.64cm and rear at ~67.69" / ~171.93cm, that's close enough so as not to be a problem isn't it?

Thanks

So far I've had one Subaru specialist say it won't make any different and one dealership say 'I wouldn't suggest it, but it's up to you'...

So one of the tyres will travel a distance of 0.71cm, or 7mm more than the other each revolution? I'm not sure that it will damage your diff, but it sure won't do it any good.

IMHO the good news is that you will wear the fronts quicker than the rears....

Unless it's a Type-R with a 2.5 in it !

Just used an online thing instead of the Excel sheet I made, that has it as an extra 13mm but 205/45s are flaming expensive, whereas a 205/40 - 225/35 combo makes it a difference of 19mm but the tyres are a lot cheaper. But then is the saving in tyres more than a new diff...? (I think not) A night of maffs ahead methinks...

It's a GX with a 2.0 non-turbo in it, power isn't an issue, trust me ;] (well, it is an issue, but in a different way :[)

The other question was, even if I used the same tyres front and back to eliminate the circumference issue, I can't see the different widths being a problem? Especially if I space them out so either the outer edge is the same or the middles are aligned (so the rears are only 1/2 and inch either side of the front)?

Actual offset doesn't affect the rolling radius, but you could try the same size tyre F&R but stretch the rears onto a slightly wider rim. This will reduce the rolling radius a bit....

P.S. You may find that the actual figures quoted by the manufacturers are best to compare... I'm a maths wiz, but the answers are only for "perfect" tyres...

As an example :-

http://www.toyo.co.uk/productdetail....&product_id=18

225/40ZR 18 92Y GG/SG 5.0 638 224 299 827 10.5 8.0 7.5-9.0
255/35ZR 18 94Y RF GG 5.0 637 260 299 828 11.7 9.0 8.5-10.0

Yeah, totally agree there, you could do all the maths down to a T and even then the amount they're under/over inflated by will screw everything up.

I didn't think the offset had anything to do with it, just thought I'd ask though.

Yep, I could use the same front and rear, but I want to try and match the stretch on them (picky I know, but that's how I want it).

You're a hard man to please !

Cheapest solution might be same width wheels fitted with the same tyres, but using different offsets/spacers...

Hey, as I said, it's a GX, so since performance is out the question I'm only left with style ;]

See, that would be the easy solution, and was that the case it would be done by now, unfortunately, it's not actually the case that I'm going for the staggered look, it's that the wheels I want (and out of the hundreds I've looked at, these are the ones I want (see previous comment on being picky ;] )) only come in a staggered package. So, short of buying 2 sets and selling half of each (which has crossed my mind, but dismissed as stupid) this is what I'm left with :|

Hey, at least it'll be different
