Default cracked OZ ultraleggera. repair possible?

bonjourno....

while having new tyres fitted today, several cracks were discovered to the inner rim of 2 wheels, each approx 8-10mm running from innermost part of the wheel rim toward face (not cracked at all around circumfrence).

each crack (5 on one wheel, 2 on the other) is only small so i am hoping to have them repaired as they are straight and not kerbed and obviously quite expensive to replace.

is this possible with these wheels as a friend suggested that they may be magnesium alloy of some kind?

and if there is a company you could recomended in the south all the better.

cheers people.

Not magnesium fella.

May be possible to weld them, but are you sure you'd want to "go for it" on a set that have already cracked ?

I got mine seriously airborne up in Keilder a couple of years back, and mine were fine when checked over.

hi bud,im a welder by trade and have had a local engineer come in on the odd occasion to repair alloy wheels.

Now although these were just superficial scuffs or dings they were easy to weld as the parent metal are normally of good quality.

However,i told him i wouldnt be prepared to fix cracked alloys as the crack may go further into the alloy and only show up with dye penetrant and/or ultrasounding,a job for a specialist wheel repairer.More often than not they would recommend against repair for safety reasons.By all means have a go at finding someone (and while the cost of new wheels can cost a lot) consider what may happen if they fail in use.Good luck bud.
