Default Brake Stoppers....Any good??

Just a quick question, how effective are the brake master cylinder brackets I've seen advertised for improving pedal feel??, and which make/model would you recommend to buy?.

Thanks Guys

I,ve got a V2 STI

I got the CDF Mk 2 version in the GB earlier this year. Definitely makes the end of the pedal stroke feel more confidence inspiring. I'd measured the deflection of the firewall beforehand and found it was moving nearly 1mm. It doesn't sound a lot but when you think of the effect that has at the pedal its signifcant. Biggest problem though IMHO is the two stage booster.

I'd recommend the CDF part. Powder coated and was reasonably priced - V5 STi in my case.

always wonderd what these actualy do, any technical guru explain the benifits etc from fitting these, just i intend to be doing alot of track days this year so any help with the braking side of things would be great, currently have AP 4pots and 304mm disks(i think need to measure) but the disks need replacing so might go for the 330mm with new bells.

so what benifits will i notice from the stoppers

thanks

I thought they where for feel only not really for added performance of the brakes

There seems to be a few different manufacturers of these brackets, ranging from £29.95-£59.95. Any recomendations and are they easy to fit??

I really rate them, I certainly noticed a far better pedal after fitting mine. I now need one for my track car I am building. I am even thinking of getting one made, perhaps I should get a few made up

Anyone have fitting instructions?
I can see from the drawing how it looks, but do you have to drill the left hand side bolt into the suspension tower>?

They're great bits of kit, my experience of them is on the 200sx, but the theory is the same.

If you get somebody to push the brakes while you what the BMC, you'll see if moving. That movement, like flex in the brake lines, or them moving about, equates to brake pedal travel that doesn't do any braking.

With all fixed braided hoses and a stopper, decent fluid with no air, you'll find that the smallest movement of the pedal does some braking, so you can be much more confident with them

I measured mine, (99MY Forester so similar to classic) with the (sub 9st) wife pushing firmly on the pedal the end of the Master cylinder moved 6mm.

With the CDF stopper fitted from an older GB I can't now measure any movement under the same test.

Before (2-pots, 277mm disc and EBC reds) the brakes worked fine but with a lousy dead feel where more effort/pedal movement didn't translate into more retardation, now they feel much nicer with a sensible progression, although peak performance is the same.

Has anyone fitted a brake stopper kit to a impreza that's fitted with a fmic? Or do the pipes get in the way?

I have had one fitted to a car with Hybrid FMIC. No problem with clearance to the hot pipe for the one I had fitted. Took it off and sold it as I could not identify any benefit. Maybe my bulkhead is rigid anyway. On the same car I fitted braided hose lines and thought that was a very overrated modification.

strange that, i noticed a big difference in brake hoses, don't think your trying hard enough lol

although switching for a set of 6 pots made even more difference lol
