So,

There's not really a lot holding the whole thing together is there?

2 bolts holding the caliper?
Discs just sit there then - relying on the wheel bolts and nuts?
It that right?

I was watching my replacement discs & pads being fitted this morning.

yep thats correct, although it cant move very far even without the wheel due to the caliper shrouding................
