Default buying tyres online

It seems tyres are a lot cheaper online, and being a tight bastid, I'd like to buy them from the cheapest source.

Now, I've had a look at fully fitted tyres at e.g. mytyres.co.uk, and for my choice of tyres, it comes up to about 365 quid fully fitted for a set of falken fk-452's.

However, looking at camskill, I can get them for 280, but then they're obviously not fitted.

How do people go about having internet tyres fitted, and how much should I be looking at paying someone to do this?

I was stung £15 a corner, so best do some ringing around first. I used to pay £10 a tyre... Think they do it deliberately to make their own supply and fitting prices competitive.

MyTyres - Online

Best to use the fitted option I find at around £9 a corner. Last time I got them without fitting all the local garages wanted to charge loads. Used to be able to get it done for £5 a corner.

Do what I do: get a decent price, then ring round and quote it to tyre dealers, see who can get close inc valve, fitting and balance.

My tyres come from the same local dealer. I've been using him for years now, and he will look after me, including getting tyres quickly, good prices on fitting etc, good prices on puncture repairs etc.

Pays to have a local guy on board, tbh, I'd rather pay a LITTLE extra than get tyres off the net, then be trying to get a decent price for fitting, and if there's a problem with the tyre, it's not theirs

Not wanting to be too opinionated, but I think that Falken tyres are total Sh*t.

I have them on my GTI-6 at the moment and they are blooming dangerous in the wet. Brother got 2 on his scoob in an emegency situation when garage had no good tyres and they were deadly, got them back off ASAP.

Never skimp on tyres........

Well, I hear what you're saying about the falkens, but then every thread on them comes up with a group of people liking them and another group thinking they're total crap

My car has been reduced to a commutermobile at the moment, and to give an indication of my driving style - my good year f1's that I got part worn (7mm left) when I bought the STI wheels have lasted 23k miles, including a 15 minute session at castle combe.

Anyway, the search continues... If I can find a decent fitting price in Bromley or Crawley, I might splash out on better tyres.

i have used falkens on 2 previous cars, but the zetec fiesta ate a set in 7k miles on my daily commute from telford to stafford (all them roundabouts) then my chipped tdi passat ate a set in 6k miles, they were grippy, but wore out too fast, once they were anywhere near wear limit they were dangerous. that was 512's and 912's. just had black circles deliver me a set of toyo t1-r's and im impressed with them, not had loads of chance to get em hot and bothered but they let the car turn in very well 261 quid delivered in 205/50/16 fitment, then 40 quid fitted new valves etc. then they chucked old battered tyres in the boot so i had to chuck em a fiver to get rid of old tyres, did see them use a fancy air bag jack though on my car. nice bit of kit!!

a good one is to take the wheels off and take them down with the tires. this is usually cheaper as saves them jacking the car up. depends how much money you wanna save

Initial impressions of the sessantas are very good!

Steering is very good, the car doesn't wander around on it's own in lanes and is stable on breaking (not done anything "hooligan style" so far). Very happy so far.

Service from Elite Direct was spot on as well.
