Default Remove rear disks

I've got a MY2000 classic UK Turbo. I am trying to change the rear disks but the handbrake shoes seem to be stopping the disk coming off.

I have remembered to release the handbrake! The disk is free to jiggle around but will only come about 5 mm off before it stops moving. I have found a small rubber grommet on the inside of the backing plate that comes out and gives some access to the inside of the drum but it is pretty small and I can't see much.

Any suggestions on how to release the shoes more from the drum to allow the disc off?

SHould I undo the cable at the lever end?

Any help appreciated

Doug

in the rear of the "backing plate" is an oblong rubber grommet which once removes allows access to the manual adjuster for the h/brake assembly - free the shoes right off and it will normally allow the disc to be removed
