Default Winter Wheels for Classic MY99

Hi guys,
Hope your wealth of knowledge can help me a little.
Out in Akita, Japan at the moment and the winters here are crazy - studless snowtyres are a must.
I am shocked at the price to be honest. Decent Bridgestone Revo GZ are over 200 quid in a 17" for my current Advan wheel!

So I am thinking about buying a second set of wheels for the winter to preserve the Advans and also maybe downsize and save on the cost of tyres...

So the car has coilovers but I would prefer not to alter the ride height again and have to do all the camber etc...

Could I go for a 15 or 16 inch wheel and not bugger the handling and speedo?

Should I just get another set of cheap 17s... I`m not sure on the standard size of wheels - I have been told my Advans are aftermarket.

What size wheels do people suggest so they don`t look completely crap but save a bit of money on rubber for the winter??? Offset etc...

Much appreciated guys and gals!!

Can't suggest a brand of tyre, but from the posts on here when the UK had some snow earlier this year, the general rule of winter wheels were that they should be a size smaller than your standard rims. So a MY99 would have had 16's as standard, but I wouldn't know of any 15's that would fit over your calipers, which is obviously something else to consider when buying new wheels.

Cheers Joey.
My current tyre seems to be 215/45/17 (previous owner kindly fitted Advan wheels)so I guess I could look for a 215/45/16 tyre and wheelset? I am just a little confused about the best wheel size/rubber combo in a 16". Is wider better? Tram lining etc? I know.. I know.. I will use the search button ;-)

I'm pretty sure they also mentioned thinner tyres were also better. But can't be sure.
Yes, check out the threads on snow tyres, and people smashing up theirs scoobs in the snow.
