Default Grooved/Plain discs-any difference in hardness ?

In the not too distant future I will need new discs on the front wheels. I had Tarox 48 Grooved discs on for a long while and they lasted really well but were noisey. Eventually I changed to the plain disc, quieter but they seem to wear out much quicker. So are grooved discs made from a harder metal compound than the plain disc ? It's not a pad issue as I always fit Pagids to the front 4 pots.

Cheers
