Engine lacquer on calipers?
Hi,
I am looking at tidying up my calipers next weekend and would like to give them a nice coat of red paint.
I have been looking the caliper painting kits but think they are ridiculously priced. £20 for a small tin of paint and some cleaning spray!!
Would High Temp Engine lacquer do the same job? I have seen Tetrosyl CarPlan Engine Lacquer much cheaper than the caliper kits... It says it is rated up to 150°c... is this enough?
Thanks in advance

I have used engine paint on my old cars calipers before and it was ok, think it could start to blister if the car is used on the track due to higher temperatures but should be ok for normal road use.

Engine lacquer doesn't seem to be the same..
Thoght as you did, and paintted the calipers on my 2000 classic wityh engine lacquer...
Ok for about 3 months, but then has gone progressively "crinkle finish". Still stays on, but not that attractive
Did the calipers on previous car wityh proper stuff, and no probsl at all (although probably not running as hot so often...)
If I did them again I would cough u[p the extra to be sure (and by the tijme you've bought the brake cleaner as well, it's not that much more!!

I too have seen engine laquer go crinkle.
I, on the other hand, have always used Hammerite Smooth, aka Smoothrite. It comes in loads of colours, is dead easy to apply, leaving no brushmarks and drying in 30 minutes, and remains shiny until damaged.
Cheap at £8 a tin too, one tin will do two FULL sets of four calipers.
