Default Soft brakes and ABS trouble

Hi guys. My brakes on my 04STI are the standard Brembo's. I have had the car about 6 months now and the brakes have always seemed very soft to me. I have to push quite hard to get it to a full stop. Also other people that drive the car have commented on how weak they feel. I have looked at the pads and discs and they seem like they have enough left on them. I will be getting a large bhp increase Questions are: -

- Whats the best way of checking the discs and pads for problems?
- The discs currently on have grooves, could they be crappy aftermarket ones?
- Would braided brake hoses make an noticeable improvement?

Also. Very occasionally, right before the car comes to a full stop (parking for example) the abs seems to kick in through the pedal. Could this be a dodgy abs sensor or something?

Thanks for any help

If the discs aren't badly worn then a change of pads may improve the feel of the pedal.

I swapped to Ferodo DS2500 all round, and my brakes felt sharper.

Once worn out I up-graded to Performance Friction on the front.

HTH

right first thing you need to do is make sure you have no air in the system do you have a mechanical back ground at all if not dont play get it to a garage and have the system blead and checked. pads need to be quite low to increase pedal travel and if you have to stand on them to stop you may even have a blocked hose or servo issue.

Ok, thanks chaps. Will get them blead first and see if that cures it.
