Default tyre swap on hawkeye standard rims

Has anyone put 225/45/17 tyres on the standard Hawkeye WRX wheels instead of the usual 215/45/17? Any problems I should know about apart from the slight change to the speedo readings? thanks

Nearly, my pal KojaK has done this on his bug-eye, and he's happy, mostly with improved wet weather grip.

P.S. Same rim width as yours.

Hello

I have to disagree a16pse. The profile size would change as the profile is a ratio of the width not a measurement so if you change to a wider tyre the profile will increase see below:

215/45/17:

Diameter:625.3mm

Circumference:1964.44mm

225/45/17

Diameter:634.3mm

Circumference:1992.71mm

So as you can see the is a 9mm increase in diameter (profile) and the circumference will increase by 28mm so your speedo will read 71mph at 70mph with the new tyre size.

Hope that helps

Dan

I wouldn't bother personally, especially if the MY06 WRX rims are still only 7" width. Traditionally the STi rims were 7.5" which is why they ran the 225.

Here in Sweden, the Sti -06 -07 was delivered with 225/45/17 from factory. I must say it runs perfect

I put 225's on my hawkeye rims, fills the arches a lot better than the skinny 215's

I run 215's on my STI 7.5" rims on my Hawkeye with Toyo Proxes 4 and they are a treat.
