Default Type R brakes

Hello all.

I have a Type R. Obviously these came with no ABS system and they are 4 pots
3 questions

Would the brombos from a new age STI fit??
Does it matter if no ABS??
Do i need any kit as to replace them??

Many thanks guys

Brembo's will fit as along as they are from an earlier newage with the PCD of 5x100 for the discs.

Yes they will
05> STI's have the 114 PCD disc's, but these can be drilled by the likes of Godspeed to fit a classic.

HI
The fronts will fit straight on , the back will also fit straight on only if you have the 2 pot calipers fitted on your car as standard , the early Type R's had single piston calipers and the backplates are different.

The discs from the sti had a pcd of 5 x 100 up to MY05 , then changed to 5 x 114 , but its easy to redrill the later discs to an early PCD

Your wheels may now be a factor, new age cars have wheels to accommodate the brembo's and not all 17's (very few older ones) will fit the brembo's behind them.
As for the lack of ABS, no it wont make any difference.

My rears are 2 pots so i would imagine from what you guys are sayin they should be a direct bolt on job. My wheels shouls clear them as they are 4 pots at the moment anyway.
Just gotta find someone thats selling them

Many thanks for your help

Godspeed indeed do a kit but that's for version 4 Type R onwards.
As a V3 Type R owner I'm fecked unless I change the hubs and back plates etc.

Just to clarify , the kit we make is for the WRX ect , with 266mm discs and single pot calipers .
The version 4 Type R's dont need any fitting kit , as the rear brembo's fit straight on , and they also share the same handbrake size.

Daz , just try and locate some V4 backplates , as you already have the right sized handbrake shoes , the brembo's will fit your car then.
Cheers Ian
