Default Front Pad replacement - any special tools ??

Hi All - need to replace the front pads on my MY2006 WRX Wagon. Are there any special tools required before I dive in ?? Cheers for any advice!

If you get the wheels off you dont need any tools to change them , there are 2 pins that hold the pads in place , in the ends of the pins is a thin metal wire clip that stops the pins coming out , remove the thin wire clip , the 2 pins will slide out , pull the pads out and fit the new ones in , you will have to push the pistons back into the calipers to get the new thicker pads in.

It is a very simple job that can be done start to finish in 15 - 20 minutes

Cheers Ian

How difficult the job is will be completely dependant on how tight wedged in the pads is in the caliper. If they are really stuck in there you will wish you had a couple of relatively cheap tools

1. Brake Piston spreader - google for "Brake Piston spreader"
2. Brake Pad Puller - google for "brake pad puller" Sealey make one.

With the right tools I did the job in under 30 mins from jacking the car up to jacking the car down. Without the right tools and a pad that refused to move it took me 2 hours to do just the one side!

But it is a relatively easy task

Thanks a bunch Ian! Last time I changed pads was years ago on the rear of a AE86 RWD corolla - they needed a special tool to rotate the piston as it was depressed !! - Took me ages to work it out!!

As Ian says - no special tools. However, I have a reverse impact hammer (to remove pads jammed in with dust) and piston push back tool that make life simple. About £5 and £15 respectively from Machine Mart. Give the calipers a good clean out with an old toothbrush to get rid of accumulated dirt and grit.

Cheers for the vid link.
for the final bit, can anyone recommend an on-line supplier / brand?
Also, is there any 'real-world' difference between budget and top-end brands??

Thanks
