MY06 STi - want the 'filled arch' look of WRC cars in tarmac spec
I've been reading loads of threads and getting rather confused- can't afford to buy the wrong wheels!
I'm guessing I need to lower the offset to 35ish and increase the width a bit?
Don't want to roll the arches or **** around, nor do i want it to rub- and will it look like its on stilts on the prodrive springs which ain't that low.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

hard to know what offset but putting anything more than 235's on is going to destroy the ride, most would agree 225's are more than enough on any scoob.
was thinking the same for my audi and ended up buying h&r hubcentric spacers which while not the cheapest option work very well and leave the a4 looking very meaty,if anything drives better as well.

You could get 18x8.5 alloys with approx anywhere from 35 to 42 offset; with 235 or 245 tyres upfront & 235 or 245 or 255 tyres at the rear to get the look your after. If your car is lowered this may require either some arch rolling but more likely instead a bit of negative camber.

Saying that 35 offset will definetley require arch rolling & puling
Better stick with 40 or 40 plus> offset with 245 tyres. Or reduce tyre width & increase offset.
IMO below is perfect, not too aggresive US hellaflush stylee & not stuck inside the arches either. Though this is more of a show look, for trackdays I would put my e.g original 17"s back on running on 235 tyres.
Perfect IMO
Slightly aggresive IMO
A bit tame IMO
Holy Hella Flush, its the Wrong fitment Crew!
ps suspension drop can make it deceiving on the eye too

Iv been Pm ing members on NASIOC in US & Rota dealers there & reckon:
Silver top one is 48 offset on 235 tyres & blue one is 44 offset.
44 to 45 offset on 245 width tyres seems good but may require approx 1.5 > negative camber on rear wheels or a tiny bit of arch rolling. Nothing major. (235 tyres probably a straight fit as is 48 offset)
-IMO 18x8.5 alloys with 245 tyres on a 44 or 45 offset will look excellent.
-If you want no hassle in terms of arch rolling etc then 18x8.5 or 8 alloys with 235 tyres on a 48 offset will look good to.
Dont wait for me, I have'nt got spare funds to spend on wheels till end of year Next bit of spare dosh is going on engine in May

likewise- all mine's in a container headed for the Gold Coast
although I hate the thought of spacers could they give the same effect? I've got three sets of wheels already and the wife'd go nuts (ok, even more nuts) if I bought more...

Spen555 - those are Rota Grid drifts. I've been 'studying' the US setups and asking questions for a few weeks now! 18x9.5s and on 245 or 255 tyres, so you need negative camber or arch mods. I think they can be made to clear Brembos. In case it wasn't obvious, these are copies of Rays TE37s - but with much more of a convex look. Only very wide TE37s (eg 9.5 or 10 for Evos or Skylines) offer that look, but Rota fake it a little bit - you can see the curve on 8.5s. On this forum speak to BigJames...
I'm playing it safe and getting bronze Grid Drifts in 18x8.5s ET 44 with 235/40/18 tyres. With 5x100 PCD. I have stock suspension so 99.99% sure no mods required. I'm hoping I can get Prodrive springs on too. These spec wheels are brand new in the UK - you can now order them, but there aren't any shipping just yet. I've definitely bored everyone with this now
Best US sites for this are t3hclap.com (everything you ever needed to know about JDM wheels and WRX / STi / Brembo clearance - no else writes up this stuff!), and wheeldude.com for Rota wheels, plus NASIOC and iwsti.com for forums.
scby rex, I bet it looks amazing - how does it handle now though?

hi guys, i have a 2003 sti jdm blobeye. ive been thinking of new wheels and i really like the rota g-force wheel in 18". the car has a powerstation suspension setup using coilovers. i want it to have the same size wheel as the picture of the blue impreza above, so is that a 18"x8.5 with a 235x40 tyre with a 44mm offset?? i also want it sit the same, without touching the arches will that be possible with my suspension and will these wheels clear brembos?

i *think* they're 18x9.5s with 245 or 255s. one of dan the wheeldude's customer cars - unless anyone knows different? wheeldude.com...
those sizes take work on any newage, even with adjustable suspension. but some us owners even run 18x10s on 255s on a wagon, so anything can done if you're determined enough. zero handling i'm sure
i'm told 18x8.5s and 235/40/18s are a safe option - but still waiting to book a time and get the wheels shipped and fitted to know for sure. you could probably just add neg camber at the rear and avoid having to widen the wheelarches - mine's stock though so someone else can confirm that!

looks mean!
ordered 18x8.5 et44 grid drifts a few days ago with tsl. i suggested 235/40 tyres, but they recommended 225/40 tyres instead to guarantee clearance.
can i get away with 235s without widening the arches or impairing daily driving, as i get the impression it would be ok? also getting prodrive springs fitted a week before the wheels arrive.
thanks!

I currently have an 18x8.5 wheel with a 35 offset, running 225/40/18 tyres and it just caught the rear arch's, but it was nothing a slight roll/tap couldn't sort.
My car has been lowered on TEIN's though.
If you go to a 235 tyre with the offset you have then I wouldn't of thought you would have a problem, but again you may need a slight roll, especially when it comes to hard cornering.

thanks all. i was hoping tsl would let me try out both 225s and 235s (eagle f1s) - but they say they don't keep them in stock and i had to choose what to get in...really, for such a popular brand?
without any experience (it's all from reading around and asking on forums in the last month) i decided to go with their advice and 225s. guess i should have stuck to my guns, but there's always next time - about 6000 miles in the case of f1s!
as for arch rolling it was recommended on the rears slightly if i lowered the suspension from std - which will be the case now. so i'm anticipating that one, but might just clear it on 225s.
gonna have to wait a few weeks but will post up the results.
so budgie, what are you going for now? 9.5s? 10s?!!?
cheers!

Thanks Spruxxx for the kind words, hopefully I will be able to post up some pics of my car on the 9.5's over the next couple of weeks.
Mines the one in this thread:

This gives you a good idea of how the setup sits as its before the bodykit went on.:

The Ultralite Atec-2's in 8.5x18 give more of a concave look to the spokes than 8.5 Grinds do.
I would say to get that kind of concave on the spokes you would need to get a set of 9" grinds.
Love your car in standard form!

The Atec's do seem to curve in more than the grids but alot of it has to do with the offset.
My atec's are on a 35 offset but when you go that low on a scoob, then it comes down to the choice of wheel and luck whether the curve of the spoke clears the Brembo calipers.
