Where should I put my new rubber?
Quick question as it's the first time I've had to get tyres for an AWD car.
I need to get 2 front tyres. Am I better off putting the rears on the front and the new rubber on the back? The backs have a few months left on them.
Cheers, Rich.

Thanks Simpsons. Someone else told me the same but I wanted a few more opinions. I just can't believe how quick the fronts have worn as they were all the same a few months back.

Put them on the rear is the advice, however this means you will wear the fronts faster... They carry more load in cornering and braking, so don't last as long !
Ideally with 4wd all four tyres would have the same tread, so I would put them on the front .
Keep an eye on the wear, and swap front to rear later.
All imho

Advice used to be to put new ones on the front as they do most of the work. Current advice is to put new ones on the rear as with typical driver ability (brought up solely on fwd) a rear wheel slide is more difficult to catch than a front wheel slide. So you can see it's marginal one way or the other as it keeps changing.
If the current rears are 95% trashed and likely to let go at any moment then put them on the front and new ones on the back.
If you're a half way competent driver and the current rears are not as bad as above then I like Dunx advice, leave them on the rear and put new on the front so they will more quickly get to all worn the same.

I reckon the rears have about 2-3k miles left in them, going on the advice above I will put the new ones on the rear as I'm getting used to the understeer on the scoob. I just can't believe how quick the fronts have worn considering all 4 tyres were equal a few months ago!

You need a Whiteline rear ARB (adjustable) to kill the understeer.
Get the geometry checked out, try a specialist, as Kwik Fit will only have the "book" settings. Rick @ RE Motorsport changed the geometry on mine and it was much better.

I just changed mine yesterday and had the new tyres (vredestein ultrac sessanta) put on the front, guy advised to swap front to back but having the understeer issues! need to upgrade arb's etc.. but is there a recommended package i can buy for front & rear?
Anyway, will keep an eye on the wear but personally happier for the new rubber on the front.
