Staffi I went for R888's (same size) but found them to be too soft for normal road use cracking tyre tho.Im now Using hard compound Dunlop track tyres(same size) and they seen to be holding out quite well as Tony has said the Bridgstones are also a cracking tyre but in that size they are rare as rocking horse ****e as for people saying they tramline yes that is true when they get a bit worn down but if you get your wheel alignment /geometry set up right they are ok.My car has those size tyres as standard thats why I have kept the same size profile I dont like to change things that work well

Staffi I havent used eagles before so I cant comment but as you have said the reviews rate them.As for other sizes I would be drawn towards the uk size which I think is 225 I havent tried the 225's because it is approx 10mm differance in width which will change the overall width track of the car to a purist like me I like to stick with what works and if the JDM spec-c comes with 235 I will stick with 235

I find the 888's excellent for the road aswell as the sprints not even to bad in the wet, i would never buy any other tyre again, took almost 2secs a lap off at curborough compared to michelin ps2's

I have been using 888's 225/40/18's on the road. Everything was looking good with them and covered 6k miles on them. I then took my car to the garage for underbody service to find both front tyres on the inside walls had 4/5 eggs on the wall of the tyre
I am taking the tyres back to the place where I got them from to see what they say but I don't hold much hope for any discount towards some new ones.
I am now worrying about the backs and will they be okay?
I managed 20k on the road with Toyo T1-R's

Staffi, keep your eyes on ebay as 235 RE070's do come up. I found a set last year and Ricky's just got some. I asked litchfield and pcm about getting hold of them (even tried a group buy!) but they couldn't help.
IMO you won't find anything with side-walls as stiff as the bridgestones (which has a major effect on the handling). If I can't find anymore then I'll go to !8" track oriented tyres on new rims.
Gussy, how do you find the dunlops for stiffness? I agree on the 225 v's 235 as not only will it change track width but will alter profile height. If it ain't broke...

i like the 888's
much better feel than any other tyre ive used
ok, the wear rate is not great
but the confidence factor when cornering
and i have used these in the wet
and other than standing water they are fine
budgie
btw, do use t1r's for general winter use

You could look at the vredstein (sp) as these are a damn good tyre (the new ones, though the ultrac are also very good but wear pretty quickly ) and they get my vote over the goodyears which when ive had them on other cars felt a bit wooly due to the flex in the side wall, just not enough feedback or presision for my liking.
As for the 888's, definately not a road tyre for the uk, definately not a wet weather tyre but they are an excellent track tyre, but they need heat in them, oh forget the yoko's also, if anyone says go for these, hit them as once they get heat into them, they go off very quickly
If you can get the RE070's in the 235 range again, go back to them one of the best tyres ive ever had on a car, even out paced a 180bhp "hot hatch" over a slushy road across the pennines (he was getting wasted on the corners ) and I wasnt using the gearbox that much (oh and he was trying )

Tony,
Does the change to 225 make a MASSIVE difference in feel, etc over the 235s then?? surely they,re STILL a good tyre in there own right?? cus i,m not confident i can get my hands on 235s after searching everywhere it seems they,re not a UK tyre..

I have 225 RE070's and they are fantastic. These came standard on my 03 JDM STi. The Spec 'C' of the same year had the same size rims so if it came with 235's on I can't see 225's being much different if at all.

Be careful they are 5 * 114 PCD so for the newer cars 05 onwards IIRC.

The RE070's when on my car give loads of feedback via the steering wheel as to road surface etc. surperb for track tyres.
