I hope you dont want them for road use
Good for track use, but your RE070's are also good for track use ;) just a little hard to get hold of in that size :( (and last longer than the 888's)

Tony:)

Tony,

My RE070`s are in that size, what tyre would you recommend then for mainly road use??

gussy 12 October 2008 11:50 AM

Staffi I went for R888's (same size) but found them to be too soft for normal road use cracking tyre tho.Im now Using hard compound Dunlop track tyres(same size) and they seen to be holding out quite well as Tony has said the Bridgstones are also a cracking tyre but in that size they are rare as rocking horse ****e as for people saying they tramline yes that is true when they get a bit worn down but if you get your wheel alignment /geometry set up right they are ok.My car has those size tyres as standard thats why I have kept the same size profile I dont like to change things that work well

Pete 12 October 2008 11:56 AM

Gussy, been looking @ Eagle F1 asymmetric too, any good?? they seem to have great reviews??

PS If i can,t get this size again, what size do you recommend folks??

gussy 12 October 2008 12:11 PM

Staffi I havent used eagles before so I cant comment but as you have said the reviews rate them.As for other sizes I would be drawn towards the uk size which I think is 225 I havent tried the 225's because it is approx 10mm differance in width which will change the overall width track of the car to a purist like me I like to stick with what works and if the JDM spec-c comes with 235 I will stick with 235

That,s my thoughts exactly mate, i like how the 235s feel tbh, infact i like these tyres full stop, i guess i,ll have to try VERY hrad then to get this size, surely somone stocks this size??:wonder:

frayz 12 October 2008 12:42 PM

Litchfield can get 235's if i remember correctly. Quite expensive though due to them being difficult to source.

scoobytyson 12 October 2008 01:05 PM

How do u find the RE070's pete? i could not stand them and changed to the 888's and think these are brill, i got mine off sloany but in 18's

Rob,

TBH mate i find them ok, BUT i,ve never had 888s on a car of mine so can,t compare..:wonder:

Are 888s good for a road tyre though Rob??

scoobytyson 12 October 2008 04:54 PM

I find the 888's excellent for the road aswell as the sprints not even to bad in the wet, i would never buy any other tyre again, took almost 2secs a lap off at curborough compared to michelin ps2's

SPEN555 12 October 2008 05:12 PM

I have been using 888's 225/40/18's on the road. Everything was looking good with them and covered 6k miles on them. I then took my car to the garage for underbody service to find both front tyres on the inside walls had 4/5 eggs on the wall of the tyre

I am taking the tyres back to the place where I got them from to see what they say but I don't hold much hope for any discount towards some new ones.

I am now worrying about the backs and will they be okay?

I managed 20k on the road with Toyo T1-R's

That,s not good at all.........:nono:

Didn,t you find the walls were soft on the T1-R`s though??

madisonmonkey 12 October 2008 06:41 PM

Staffi, keep your eyes on ebay as 235 RE070's do come up. I found a set last year and Ricky's just got some. I asked litchfield and pcm about getting hold of them (even tried a group buy!) but they couldn't help.
IMO you won't find anything with side-walls as stiff as the bridgestones (which has a major effect on the handling). If I can't find anymore then I'll go to !8" track oriented tyres on new rims.

Gussy, how do you find the dunlops for stiffness? I agree on the 225 v's 235 as not only will it change track width but will alter profile height. If it ain't broke...

scoobysmiff 12 October 2008 07:39 PM

Toyo R888 Tyre 23540W17 2354017 New Road Legal Track on eBay, also, Tyres, Car Wheels, Tyres Trims, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 03-Nov-08 11:31:29 GMT)

are these any good?

Pete 12 October 2008 07:48 PM

I,ve just read that the 235 version is like rocking horse poo to get and was/is only available in Japan..:ponder:

Tell me, what,s the side wall of the 888s like???

scoobytyson 12 October 2008 08:49 PM

The sidewall on the 888's arnt as hard as the re070's, the bridgestones are like concrete

Budgie 12 October 2008 09:09 PM

i like the 888's
much better feel than any other tyre ive used
ok, the wear rate is not great
but the confidence factor when cornering
and i have used these in the wet
and other than standing water they are fine

budgie:)

btw, do use t1r's for general winter use

TonyBurns 12 October 2008 11:06 PM

You could look at the vredstein (sp) as these are a damn good tyre (the new ones, though the ultrac are also very good but wear pretty quickly :() and they get my vote over the goodyears which when ive had them on other cars felt a bit wooly due to the flex in the side wall, just not enough feedback or presision for my liking.

As for the 888's, definately not a road tyre for the uk, definately not a wet weather tyre but they are an excellent track tyre, but they need heat in them, oh forget the yoko's also, if anyone says go for these, hit them :lol1: as once they get heat into them, they go off very quickly :(

If you can get the RE070's in the 235 range again, go back to them ;) one of the best tyres ive ever had on a car, even out paced a 180bhp "hot hatch" :lol1: over a slushy road across the pennines (he was getting wasted on the corners ;)) and I wasnt using the gearbox that much ;) (oh and he was trying ;))

Tony:)

Pete 12 October 2008 11:17 PM

Tony,

Does the change to 225 make a MASSIVE difference in feel, etc over the 235s then?? surely they,re STILL a good tyre in there own right?? cus i,m not confident i can get my hands on 235s after searching everywhere it seems they,re not a UK tyre..

Madisonmonkey I have found them to be a cracking tyre, stiff side walls (better than R888's) good feedback throught the steering wheel on track/road I havent used yet the soft compound so cant comment on them I have the H1 compound once there upto tempreture there great a good compromise between the R070's/R888's.

Have you tried Reyland? Sure Martin would be able to source a set and he's local.

Be careful they are 5 * 114 PCD so for the newer cars 05 onwards IIRC.

I have 225 RE070's and they are fantastic. These came standard on my 03 JDM STi. The Spec 'C' of the same year had the same size rims so if it came with 235's on I can't see 225's being much different if at all.

I can't fault the 225's still loads of tread left after doing about 8 track days now

The RE070's when on my car give loads of feedback via the steering wheel as to road surface etc. surperb for track tyres.

rickya 22 October 2008 02:05 PM

RE070 best tyres Iv used yet :)

Still got some life left in my 235's & got a nearly new set waiting to go on. After that who knows where Il get some more from :(
