Question

I need a new set of tyres, and am looking at Toyos (which I've got on at the moment), Goodyear F1s or Bridgestone SO3s. Talking to Mike Wood at Prodrive on Saturday, he said that he thought that SO3s weren't recommended for the standard 16" MY00 wheels. Is this correct? Is anyone running them?

Cheers
Richard

Question

I'm looking at the same 3 options for my 17" MY01.
Havn't decided yet but cost will probably decide in the end.

TSL are fitting them tomorrow afternoon.

I did a favourite little blast of mine coming back from Loughborough that goes past Donnington Park as a last test of the SO2 PPs (which are well worn now).

I'm going to come the same way home to start scrubbing the F1s in so I'll have some very early thoughts tomorrow night.

just to say that the SO2's where not recommened for the 16 inch wheel. The reason Subaru had not tested that particular combo.

Just a legal standpoint really.

Really? Interesting, as most owners reckon they're the best, even if they are expensive. Any idea about SO3?

Thanks
Richard

ChrisB - any thoughts now you've had them on for a day or two?

Thanks

Initial thoughts...

Doesn't seem to be that much difference between the F1 and the SO2 PP to me. Graham at TSL said it will take upto 500 miles for them to scrub up to their best, so I've not pushed that hard.

I'm also getting used to a decent geometry setup but I'm a happy camper right now. I'll hopefully get a run out somewhere on Sunday (maybe over to Whilton Mill) to try them a bit more.

I think Hoppy said there's an F1 GS-D3 coming out soon (I've got the GS-D2 revision).

HTH,

Chris.

Great, thanks Chris. Sounds like the F1s are best for the money at the moment then.

Robyn, where did you get that info from? I spoke with Subaru tech department some time ago and they said at one point there was an instruction not to fit S02's but that it was withdrawn shortly after. Due to a one-off incident or something.
IMHO they're pretty good on 16". They take ages to bed in, but after that they're okay. In the wet they are awesome. In the dry they feel a bit vague on the limit but they hang on and on, just takes getting used to.

Wink

I've had the standard Bridgestone Re010 from new and to be really honest were absolutely pants. Had two sets of SO2's since and they are the dogs danglers, in the wet the grip is fantastic.... Total control. Sounds like someone is talking crap here as the SO2's were the best mod I've done to my MY00.

Had a puncture yesterday and not realising I drove on it and fecked the tyre up!!! Had to have SO3's fitted (four of them) so far I'm not impressed at all!!!!!! I know they take a while to run in, but was like I was driving on ICE

Mate with a Golf Gti had F1`s, went for SO3 and is deeply missing the Goodyears, especially in the Rain and even more when just slightly damp. In very warm conditions reckoned they were OK........

babber, stick with the SO-3's.
My last 3 sets of SO-2's have all only come into their own after 800 miles or so. Before they've worn in it's like driving a boat.
I've only put 250 miles on my new SO-3's, but already they seem better than new.

LOL,

Looks like it's me that talking crap, doh!!! Thought we were talking about SO2s not SO3s.

Just been out in the car and it all over the place, although have only done 20 miles since fitted.

I guess the SO2s were the same when new, but that was in December. I really do hope they're better than SO3s So far, jobs not a good un!!

Cheers Phill C

PS Thought the car was following the marks in the road, like the RE010 used too

I've just gone for the Eagle F1 GS-D2 for my MY99 with 16s Richard. Last two sets have been SO2 PPs but I wanted to try out the Eagle's this time around (cost was heavily in the F1s favour as well).
