Default Best Brake Discs?

Having taken my STI version 4 (1998) to the Nordschleife for the weekend the car developed a serious vibration under braking. Examining the discs it was clear that this was because they had warped and even had cracking visible in the disc surface. The car is basically undriveable now as it is so I need to replace them immediately, but doing a search on here every brand that I was considering buying I have read a post saying that someone has also had cracking on them! Some posts are quite old in the archive and maybe those discs have been improved since, so is there any current consensus on which discs are least likely to crack/warp? I took spare pads out there with me so already have a brand new set of Pagid blue 4-2 pads to go on, if that makes any difference to which discs would best suit? I know a set of big AP brakes would probably sort the problem, but I'd first like to explore whether I can improve matters with the standard size disc/4-pot calipers since other than the fact that the discs cracked I was until then happy with their braking performance. Thanks.

performance friction not cheap but have a very good reputation for standing up to virtually anything thrown at them !!!

Thanks for the advice finchyboy. Having read up on them now they look like they may well fit the bill! I'm not too fussed about the cost as my previous ones were fairly new (no lip at all on the disc yet) and got destroyed on the 'Ring quite quickly so would just need replacing regularly if I bought something similar, which is costly too! The only problem I have is that when looking where to buy them it always mentioned the Brembo calipers - does anyone sell these to fit a GC8 Subaru that you know of? Thanks again.

Cheers, Alyn at AS Performance was very helpful but it appears as though Performance Friction don't makes discs in the 295mm size for the GC8 models. Has anyone had any experience (good or bad!) with the DBA 5000s, as they look like they might be pretty good and I can get them in the correct size?

HI
To throw in a couple of more options , if you have 17" wheels I make a 335mm x 32mm kit to use with the standard subaru 4 pots , and with the right pad to suit you , can match most kits available performance wise.

If your running 16" wheels , I make 2 piece discs and bells to that are athe standard diameter , but the discs are 28mm thick instead of 24mm that the standard ones are , I supply spacers with these to widen your calipers to take a thicker disc , a thicker disc is much harder to crack.
Cheers Ian

Even AP is not necessarily the solution
I can easily warp AP discs after a couple of hours on Track if I dont take care of them

So I'll be exploring better options than AP when I buy another car

Fangoria - better than AP, is there such a thing?!?!? AP is what I would have been going for if cost was not a factor.

Ian - I have 17" wheels so would be interested to hear the details about the kit that you offer. If you have already discussed them somewhere on this site please direct me to the thread and I'll check it out, or just PM me with some info. Thanks.
