Default Any wheel experts out there? Need offset advice

Just wondered if anyone could answer this. Im not too confident at working this stuff out and before i order some wheels, i just wanted to check the maths.

We have a car with a wide bodykit fitted. Someone else has the same car/kit and is using the following size wheels to fill out the arches:-

Front
17x8+24 (no spacers)

Rear
17x9+24 (10mm spacers)

What i would like to do is fit

17x8.5 front
17x9.5 rear

Now, the bit that confuses me. Because i want to fit wider wheels, how much will that affect the offset needed?

I dont want to fit big spacers, but dont mind upto 10mm, front or rear.

Anyone any good at working out this stuff?

If you increase the rim width by 12mm (1/2 inch) then this will be split equally on the inner and outer dimensions, for the same offset. If you have a clearance issue on the inner (strut ?) then the offset needs to reduce by 6mm.

On the back, you could do with an offset of +8mm as this means no spacers are needed, a better solution if such wheels are available.
