Question What would cause this wear?

Just had the Scoob serviced. Got a phone call saying that both the front tyres need replacing. They kept them back to show me.
I was shocked to say the least. I wasn't aware of the wear as it's on the inside edge and a quick visual check when they were on the car I hadn't spotted it.
I had a fast road geometry setup done at the previous service so this is 10k's worth of wear.

For what it's worth, I have the TSL fast road geometry and the tyres wear evenly - don't let this put you off, maybe have it re-done instead

Just to confirm then, is geometry the same as tracking?

tracking normally refers to simply the toe-in or out of the front wheels
geometry would refer to the complete vehicle alignment generally

I had this problem occur 8k miles after a full geometry setup and new toyo proxes, though not to the extenet of yours. Have you contacted the company that did the setup to see if they would do a free re-check to see if anything has shifted since then?

I was a little silly in that I had it done at a place miles away from me (was visiting a mate and dropped the car off on the way past). Took it there cause I've had nothing but great service from them in the past.
Might just take it someone more local to me and get it looked at.

That is an accident waiting to happen.
Far to many drivers wait for mechanics to point out problems on their vehicles service and MOT.
We should all be doing various checks, especially to our tyre and braking system.
At least they did'nt blow out on you mate.

If you run a fast geometry (eg. Prodrive setup) and then drive mostly steady or motorway the inner front shoulders will wear.

A fast road setup runs more front neg camber (ie top of wheel is leans into arch when looking from front/rear). This helps when you're giving it some through a turn as the loaded tyre (outside) sits squarer on the road, meaning more tread is in contact with the road surface = more grip. Without neg camber (or zero camber) the tyre will sit square during straight ahead driving, but during hard cornering runs on the outer shoulder, IYSWIM..?

Equally, if you run a conservative OEM setup (ie zero front camber) and then drive hard most of the time you'll end up with outside wear on the fronts. Usually n/s is worse due to roundabouts..

Horses for courses, but a setup to match your driving style is the best to go for. IMHO an intermediate setup is hard to beat for a fast road car..

Lol, there was a VW polo by me the other day, running small wide alloys/tyres (13"..?) and he was running so much REAR neg camber it looked like is suspension had collapsed.. If he doesn't end up wrapped around a tree I recon hell be needing new rears within a few hundred miles..

I must say my rears run a lot more neg camber. Never was sure about that! LOL
I also have a lot of normal and motorway driving in my car and my tyres do indeed show the wear severely compared to the rest of the tyre.
And, as you state, i do indeed have more wear on the n/s tyre as well!
But why would they have given me the neg camber on the rear so much?
It really is noticable whereas the front is not.

Thumbs up

My car runs slightly less rear camber than the front (something like -1.34' v's -1.20'), yet it does seem more noticeable on the rear.

Possibly because you get a better view from the rear and there's no steering to confuse things..?

IMHO, suspension wise, a rear arb with solid drop links takes some beating, unless you have deep pockets. Even then I recon a rear arb/dl's gives you 70-80% of a proper coilover setup..

Obviously, it goes without saying good tyres are crucial, lol I know you're on this already..

Brake wise, I didn't realise you'd ditched the stoptechs. Did they start to be problematic again..?

On my car the OE setup, with pagid pads, s/s hoses and decent fluid just weren't up to it. Especially high speed braking.. I Must be harder on my brakes..
