Tyre pressures for driving day.
Off to see Andy Walsh for an airfield driver instruction day, they recommended using 'maximum' tyre pressures.
Anyone recommend suitable pressures for a standard 02 WRX Wagon please on RE 050's? Standard I think is 33/32.

I usually add 5 psi.
It's just to stop the outside edges getting shagged mainly, so it is also a good idea to use 1/2 worn tyres as well.
You need to watch the tyre temps, as they will get quite hot if you do lap after lap of track driving. This is because the tyres are made for road use and obviously the rubber compound is not expected to take track type energy inputs. Just give them a rest every so often.
You can tell if they get too hot because they start to fall to bits

That's great thanks. Should be fine, as it's not a track day, but a high performance driver instruction course, there are 4 of us so there will be lots of breaks.
Cheers!

One tip I was given was to chalk the sidewalls of the tyres, if you start rubbing the chalk off the untreaded part increase the pressure slightly, if you still have chalk on the tread deflate the tyres or try harder

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
When we got there, Andy recommended maximum - and i mean maximum pressure. So we put them up to 50!
Initially had them at 40, and after some hard cornering you could see marks on the sidewalls. Even after putting them up to 50, I managed to take chunks out of them when they got too hot!
