Default Wheel offset: discussion and chart to help choose wheels

Trying to find a set of suitable wheels for my 2007 WRX wagon, I have made a list of wheels from Prodrive's website, their characteristics and inner/outer clearance according to the wheel offset calculator: Wheel Offset Calculator (based on my OE wheels - please see attached spreadsheet)

How should the extra width of the new wheel be distributed (in order not to affect -or better improve- the car's handling), i.e should the inner and outer clearance be symmetrical (it looks like it from the wheels highlighted green in the chart).

What offset is the PFF7 8x18" wheel and does it catch on the inside or outside of the rear arch? Would using a different offset on the 18" wheel solve the rubbing problem?

Feel free to add your comments and update the spreadsheet with other wheels (is there a server we can upload the spreadsheet instead of having it as a jpg?)

Cheers

Offset is more important at the front, where a symmetrical increase is preferable to avoid altering the steering characteristics.
Sadly short of measuring and/or borrowing other wheels it's hard to say what's best. Wagons also suffer with a lack of the bulged arches us saloon owners enjoy.

P.S. Is that the Lund near Middleton-on-the-Wolds ?

The other factor is clearance to the calipers. Just when you think you've found the right rims, the thickness of the spokes stops the wheel from fitting.
The only true way of knowing what fits its to do trial fittings.

I have added Rota 7.5x18" ET48 wheels in the above chart.
What would be the effect of using these seeing that the inner and outer position will not increase symmetrically (like with the Prodrive wheels does)?
Should I stick with OE ones or prodrive wheels instead of other manufacturers?
What are your experiences of using ET48 in a WRX? Has the steering and handling become better/worse?
