The 35 and 40 in the above relates to the profile of the tire, being 35% and 40% of the width. They will fit the rims no problem and I should imagine that they would fit in the arch as there is hardly and difference (11mm) but I can't confirm, hopefully someone whos actually tried will be able to help a little further

It will give you a bigger wheel diameter which will change the gearing. Goes without saying that if you make the change you must change all 4 or you will screw up the diffs.
Changing the gearing will change the top speed and acceleration, this change will mean bigger diameter so higher top speed but less acceleration.
It will also make the speedo read slow which is technically illegal and a recipe for getting nicked speeding, ie you sit on 40 thro a camera but you're actually going faster and get flashed. So if you make the change check the speedo with an external device like a GPS to see how far out it is.
