Brake fluid warning light
#1
Anyone got any ideas about this please.
The warning light on my Legacy occasionally comes on when the car is used for the first time each day and stays on for about 5 - 10 mins. The first time it happened I thought, $hite and stopped to have a look. Took of the cap for the reservoir, full of fluid, no problems there then. Got back in the car and started it up - the light had gone off! The brakes feel as good as they normally do ($hite in other words )
This has happened a few more times. One time I took it to the garage and the same thing; no visible problem with fluid level and when started up afterwards the light was off.
Could it be the wrong brake fluid was used (had work done on brakes a short time ago)? Or could it be an electrical problem?
Cheers,
Pete

Could be a sensor problem, but I used to get it on my old BG, and my cousin's BF when the pads were older, and the disks also worn down - the big movements of the pistons would make the fluid level move enough to set of the warning...
Hope this helps.

Pete, it sounds like either the sensor is faulty, or the float may be sticking in the master cylinder.
The latter is easy to check. Use a very clean screwdriver or something, and push the float up and down while someone else watches the warning light.
Richard.

I had the same problem with my legacy turbo a couple of months ago, I had changed the rear calipers and had not bled the system properly, once I had the warning light stayed of.
Hope this helps.
