Default Painting my hubs

Here are a few pics of my hubs at the minute. I dont really know what colour to paint them. Would i paint then silver to match the disk, gold to match the wheel or just paint them black. If any of you have pics of what colour yours are painted, i would like to see them.

dont be tempted to paint them gold or attempt to colour code, it looks tacky IMHO.

Leave it black

I meant Paint them black, not leave them. Mine were knackered and I did mine black. Hides them well and looks okay in all conditions.

I do mine silver...which is what they would have looked like when new (well, kind of ).

I find black is a bit too shiny - looks a tacky, Matt black would be ok though (if you can find any - can't get hammerite in Matt)

And before someone questions Hammerite, yes hammerite works quite well, so long as all all the rust is cleaned off to shiny metal with a wire buffer wheel on a drill. Then etch-primed with Acid #8, and allowed to dry before hammeriting. (ignore the hammerite instructions - it doesn't last if you paint straight onto rust or bare metal).

I used hammerite on my hubs and just painted it straight onto the hubs after they had been cleaned and slightly sanded and scrubbed with a wire brush. No etching for me and it worked a treat...well I say worked a treat, I was actually in a hurry to go somewhere later that day and so I drove off forgetting about the hammerite drying. Lets just say it dried in an interesting spiral pattern

Hammerite'd mine black a while ago and they looked good - just remember they will get covered in brake dust quite quickly so be prepared to wash them regularly :-)

Leave it matt black. Anything else will just discolour or look tacky after a while.

I usually use Hammerite BBQ spray paint on external bits - hubs, calipers, even windscreen wipers (obviously not the replaceable rubber bits )

Hammerite UK - Metal Paint: Barbecue Paint

Stands up really well to the elements and you can spray directly over any rust. Give it a quick rub down with fine sandpaper and a clean. Once dry, just spray a few coats.

Thanks for the info. I got them rubbed down with some medium wet and dry and then painted with the BBQ hammerite.

It makes them look a good bit better.
