Default spongy pedal

had my new 8 pots fitted about a month ago and done a fraction under the recomended 400 miles for bedding in. Had braided lines and all four corners bled thoroughly with new dot 5 fluid when they were fitted. But the pedal is still spongy under braking and when the car is stationery i can get the pedal to the floor - is there air in the system still which needs to be bled out?

It sounds as though there is air in there somewhere...... just a very quick thought, have a quick look at the calipers, the bleed nipple should be at the top, the symptoms you're describing make me wonder if they've fitted the calipers on the wronf side of the car, with the bleed nipples at the bottom, in fluid, air rises, hence the bleed nipple MUST be at the top to get the air of of the system....... if they're wrong, whoever fitted them didn't know what they were doing!!

IN that case it sounds like they need a good bleed, it'd be worth getting the rears bled at the same time!!

DOT5 ??

I hope Not!!! It is silicone based, and consequentally, its is more compressible than dot4 and 5.1, thus a more spongy pedal.

Make sure it is DOT5.1 or DOT 4

If it is DOT5, the system should be flushed through to clear out the silicone as it does not mix with glycol based fluids. Ideally this should be done with brake cleaner, but its an iffy task as it totally dries out the system, which can cause seal damage from no lubrication if the system is hand primed and bled by pumping the pedal.

got me really worried there for a bit - didnt even know there was a difference between dot 5 and 5.1, but luckily i bought the fluid from a normal parts factor who dont really stock race type fluids and i got 5.1.

hoping its just air in the sysem still. cheers
