Question 225/45 TYRES ON 7J x 17" ET47 ALLOYS ???

Can anyone tell me if 225/45/17 tyres will fit onto 7J x 17" (offset ET47) alloys, okay? If so, will they be okay in my 1993 WRX saloon's arches?

Thanks, John.

Ive done a quick google and they seem to fit, but if your car is lowered in anyway no chance as it rubs the arches. I had to go down to 215/40/17 to clear my arches. Thats with a 40m to 50mm drop in ride height

If your profile is correct at this time, looks like maybe a no for you. My I suggest saving up for a better brand of tyres aswell. Those Nankang NS-II are nasty cheap rubbish. You will notice the world of difference with some quality tyres put on. Have a look here to get an idea of prices

Tyres for PASSENGER CARs very cheap, bargains, have a look and save

i run 235 r888 toyos and i had to cut and roll the arches, they still run through dips on full chat so i would imagine 225's on standard arches would rub as well!

Question

Thanks a lot for the replies guys....

Yeah, the whole point would be to upgrade to Eagle F1's... I already have 215/40/17's on, and in the process of upgrading, I'd like to eek out a bit more tyre width if possible - hence the 225's!

Black Circles are doing a special offer on 225/45/17 F1's at the mo, which are cheaper than 215/45's or 215/40's!

Ha! The only reason I've got these 'plastic', hard-as-nails Nankang crap on is that, at the time of getting my alloys, I needed tyres as well and that's what they came with (for a cheap all-in price).

That's most annoying about the ride height... The previous owner has fitted uprated dampers, springs and pillow ***** all round , and at a guess I'd say the car is only about an inch lower. Will this still be an issue if I were to go for the 225/45's?...

Steve, are the R888's any good at normal/fast-road speed? I've read that they're only good at trackdays (it's a trackday marketed tyre, after all) where the average speed is much higher and a lot more constant, thus putting proper heat into the compound to make them grip properly?

Regardless, I'm guessing they're dodgey in the wet, no?

Any comments would help me in my tyre choice for when I do upgrade ...

me and a few others run them on the road all the time. the car tends to track more but its worth it. obviuosly the more heat you get into them the better but the grip from cold is still great. if you depend on your scoob soley then dont fit them cos they are dangerous in the wet, not so bad in damp but if its raining youve had it! camskill had good prices on them last week.

Question

Cheers. Sound great in the dry!

However, when it rains, I don't like to press on anyhow, but are you saying that they are lethal in the wet or simply have bugger all grip at even very slow cornering speeds? Presumably they aquaplane easily too?

If it's just a case of them simply being 'mediocre' in the wet, then that doesn't particularly bother me (given the dry performance trade-off!) - but if they are a liability, then Ill look elsewhere...

Yokohama Parada 205/40 ZR17 84W RF RPB asymmetric

Is what I use, great in the wet & excellent in the dry. Where I live it pours down most of the time, and I have pushed them in the wet with no problems at all.
