Any Advice Appreciated...
Can anyone advise....what makes a tyre road legal....is it the tread pattern, the compund, the EU markings etc....reason I ask is I am confused...(nothing new you may add)......
The car that I had been preparing for limited road use...to and from track days, shows etc just passed its MOT...excellent news...as a lot of time an effort went into preparing it.....
The tyres are Pirelli RE7....on Speedling Corse Rims.......
Upon close inspection today the tyres have very very small lettering "competition use only"..but it passed an MOT inspection....they have a half decent tread and are in good condition....just wondered with these "road legal" track day tyres...I take it they wouldnt have this marking.????

E marked tyres are road legal, like Toyo R888's so can be used on the road.
Your's will invalidate any insurance for road use, and bounce your claim into the undergrowth....
Your MOT tester will "cr*p" himself if you point this out....

Thanks DunxC........
can I ask though....do you know what makes competition tyres illegal for road use...I can understand it with slicks but these have a good tread pattern similar to many bridgestone tyres I have seen?...
anyway....if thats the case I will ask the MOT why they past it...and lastly can anyone advise....what would be the correct size in road tyre size to the following...
225/625/17....thats whats on the RE7's....
thanks
Paul

Many tyre suppliers have "calculators" - Toyotyres.co.uk
Yours are 225 wide and 625 in diameter....
The rest is maths !
215/45/17 is the same in diameter
225/45/17 is about 633 in diameter !

P.S. I'm not 100% sure why they are so marked TBH.
