snow chains
#1
folks,
any useful tips on snow chains for 205/45 pirelli boots on 17" superturismos (MY97)?
can you use chains with AWD? is there enough clearance for them in the wheel well?
and, anyone know if there are any noise restrictions for foreign cars entering switzerland? (s/s backbox).
any pearls of wisdom gratefully accepted.
thanks.....

On the noise, they don't like it, although I've never known them to do anything about it. They're more likely to complain as you get higher up than at the border where you get your license type thingy, though - I've had them check for snow chains & so on at altitude & I imagine a SS BB would have every chance of starting an avalanche!

Just in case you don't already have them, you can buy snow chains at larger supermarkets in France and Switzerland. 'Jumbo' is a good one in Switzerland.
I got mine there for what seemed like a pittance but sadly they were not available in Gold!
Regarding noise, you should be OK but have heard that the local police have been trained to spot cars that might have been de-catted as this could lead to an infringment of emissions rules.
You are right that they are tought on noise generally though. At one stage the 911 had to have taller 1st and 2nd gear ratios for this country due to drive by noise regs and I am 'not allowed' to go to the toilet standing up (or flush) after 10pm in my building !!!
